Heritage Christian is hoping to improve upon last year's 2A runner-up finish when it plays Cass in the Class 2A Indiana high school football championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium. Cass will be playing in it's first title game. Both teams have identical records. Click here for a preview.
While all the big boys in Indiana soak-up the "pub" in Indiana, tiny Class A school Sheridan just keeps chugging along. Friday night the Blackhawks beat Southern Wells 48-14 to advance to next week's title game where they will seek their fourth straight championship and 10th overall. Sheridan will face Cardinal Ritter Friday at Lucas Oil Stadium. Sheridan and Ritter faced each other in the 2006 title game, which was won by Sheridan. Speedway continues speeding toward a possible trip a couple of miles away to Lucas Oil Stadium and a berth in the Indiana Class 2A championship game. The Sparkplugs (9-3) won the Sectional 30 championship Friday night beating Monrovia 34-16 giving head coach Denny Pelley has 250th career victory and the school its fifth sectional title in six year. You gotta love the nickname of the high school football team that plays in the shadow of the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Friday night the Speedway Sparkplugs (8-3) were firing on all cylinders beating unbeaten North Putnam (10-1), the #1 team in Class 2A, 28-27 to advance to the sectional final next week. As the Indiana high school playoffs move to the second round this weekend, the Indy Star has done an interesting piece on Indianapolis football program and what they spend. There's no surprise that the highest spending schools are in the state's biggest classification, which is 5A. Formerly nationally-ranked and defending 5A champ Carmel is the biggest spender followed by Ben Davis. Both teams are still alive in the playoffs. In fact, it was Ben Davis that handed Carmel its first loss of the season in the final week of the regular season.
